In 2021, Elon Musk gave his charity $5.7 billion worth of Tesla stock, the biggest donation ever made by an owner of a vehicle firm. The Musk Foundation is now among the biggest in the US thanks to the donation.
According to Bloomberg News, Elon Musk gave his own foundation $5.7 billion worth of Tesla shares to a charity at the end of 2021.
According to a tax filing acquired by Bloomberg, the Musk Foundation had $9.4 billion in assets at the end of 2021, making it one of the biggest foundations in the United States immediately after the contribution. According to the document, the foundation gave $160 million to nonprofits last year, including $55 million to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, $54 million to the XPrize Foundation, and donations Musk had made in public to nonprofits and school districts in the Brownsville, Texas, area, which is close to the SpaceX spaceport.
The Bloomberg Billionaires Index estimates Musk’s personal wealth at $167.6 billion. Musk’s contributions placed him as the second-largest donor of 2021, behind the $15 billion given by the now-divorced Bill Gates and Melinda French Gates, according to a list of the top charitable giving published by the Chronicle of Philanthropy last year.
