Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a Democrat from New York, seems extremely worried about rumors that she may be the subject of a federal investigation for allegedly helping illegal immigrants evade capture by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Following border czar Tom Homan’s announcement that he had referred her to the Justice Department for possible criminal charges, the divisive Democrat wrote a letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi this week, asking to know whether she was the focus of such an investigation.
“I’m writing to ask for clarification on whether the DOJ has given in to political pressure and efforts to use the agency as a weapon against elected people whose comments they find objectionable. She began her letter by saying, “‘Border Czar’ Tom Homan has threatened political prosecution against me on several forums over the past two weeks, citing resources I distributed informing my constituents and the American public of their constitutional and legal rights.”
Mr. Homan declared on February 13, 2025, that I would be “in trouble now” and that he had requested that the Deputy Attorney General launch an investigation. Since Mr. Homan’s initial threat to weaponize your agency fourteen days ago, I have yet to receive a referral from the federal government. Homan’s activities violate fundamental constitutional rights, and more openness is required,” the AOC continued, before referencing the Constitution’s First Amendment.
