During periods of intense heat, firefighters advise against leaving plastic water bottles in cars.
A plastic water bottle left in a hot car in the sun is said to ignite a fire in a matter of minutes.
Firefighters believe the bottle would need to be full for it to occur.
The interior of the car or a piece of plastic could then catch fire as a result of the magnifying effect caused by the water and plastic.
If it must be kept in the car, firefighters advise placing bottled water in the trunk instead.
