In response to Rep. Keith Self’s (R-TX) comments during a House hearing on Tuesday, Rep. Sarah McBride (D-DE) called Republican attention to cultural issues “weird and bizarre.” Self had called McBride “Mister McBride.”
In response to the discussion, McBride, the nation’s first openly transgender state senator, said in a statement, “I seem to live rent-free in the minds of some of my Republican colleagues.” I wish they would think about me even a small portion of the time they do, and consider ways to reduce the expenses on American households and find ways to improve government operations. The Republican Party is fixated on topics related to the culture war. It is strange and peculiar.
