Minnie wasn’t just any cat when she was sent to the Peterborough Humane Society. Minnie was one of the chunkiest cats the shelter had ever seen, weighing in at 27 pounds. Her fur was matted in places she couldn’t reach to brush, and she was discovered straining to move and abandoned close to someone’s house. Minnie had obviously been mistreated, and her size was a reflection of the suffering she had gone through.
Saved and All Set for Love
Everyone at the shelter loved Minnie because of her resilience in spite of her size and suffering. Although they were aware of her potential, her rescuers could tell that she had probably been abandoned due to her weight. Beneath the excess weight, Minnie was a loving, kind cat who simply needed a little support to feel confident.
Heidi Wilkins, the manager of community and shelter services at Peterborough Humane Society, stated that although Minnie is initially reticent, she quickly warms up to you. “She is quite laid back and enjoys the company of everyone she meets, which is surprising given how uncomfortable she must feel at her size.”
Accepting Play and Being Patient
Despite finding it challenging to walk about due to her bulk, Minnie continued to enjoy herself. She started to enjoy brief outbursts of energy with her shelter companions, and playfulness became a part of her weight loss path. Everyone who saw her smiled because of her unwavering will to play despite her size.
Heidi laughed as she said, “Minnie doesn’t seem to realize how big she is.” She simply goes about her day, content to play or relax when she can. Her happiness is endearing, despite the fact that she must be uncomfortable.
