Democrats and the Kamala Harris campaign have not wasted any time in highlighting the support of Bush administration officials and other establishment figures like Dick and Liz Cheney. This week, people who really know how much is at risk gave President Trump a much more significant endorsement.
In an open letter, over 400 national security and international policy experts, former Cabinet members, retired military officers, and Gold Star families have endorsed Trump and criticized the foreign policy missteps of the Biden-Harris administration. The letter, which was coordinated by former NSC Chief of Staff Alex Gray and National Security Adviser Robert O’Brien, makes a strong case for why Trump is the leader needed to restore American security and highlights the shortcomings of the present administration.
The letter makes it abundantly evident that under Trump, everything was much safer. The letter claims, “Under the Biden-Harris Administration, we are closer to a third world war than ever before—from a world at peace under President Trump.” The text highlights the increasing dangers that the United States is facing, ranging from intensifying international wars to an open southern border that has “permitted terrorists to flood into the American homeland.” The letter focuses on the way that risky and unrestrained behavior by hostile actors such as China has arisen as a result of the Biden-Harris administration’s inability to demonstrate its might internationally.
The letter was also signed by eleven relatives of the 13 American service members who were tragically died at Abbey Gate during the disastrous 2021 pullout from Afghanistan. Their support served as a sobering reminder of the stark differences between Trump’s leadership style and the disastrous choices the Biden administration made. The letter states, “The war in Afghanistan had dragged on for almost 16 years when President Trump took office.” “A peace deal was achieved by February 2020, guaranteeing that no American soldier would die in battle until the end of the Trump Administration.
The signatories stressed that because “the Taliban understood President Trump’s resolve and U.S. forces were prepared to ensure their compliance,” the pact remained strong under Trump’s direction. On the other hand, the Biden-Harris administration’s careless handling of the withdrawal exposed American forces, resulting in the needless deaths of 13 service people and giving the Taliban access to billions of dollars’ worth of American military hardware. “The botched withdrawal from Afghanistan…made [the Taliban] the most well-armed terror organization in the world,” the letter states.
Numerous well-known members of the Trump administration have signed the letter, including former US ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. Along with hundreds of Republican officials, it bears the signatures of forty former US ambassadors, seventy-five top military officers, and many others who praised Trump’s diplomatic accomplishments and tough foreign policy stance. The letter calls Trump a “peacemaker” and praises his involvement in the Abraham Accords and cease-fire deals between Turkey and Kurdish rebels.
“Protecting peace is consistent with the highest standards of American foreign policy and the Judeo-Christian values that formed the foundation of our country,” the letter goes on. It continues, quoting Jesus from Matthew’s Gospel: “This is the legacy of the Trump Administration: ‘Happy are the peacemakers, for they shall be sons of God.'”
The letter makes clear that Trump’s record stands in stark contrast to the terrible policies of the Biden-Harris administration. The appeal from these hundreds of Gold Star families, soldiers, and national security professionals serves as a potent reminder of why Trump is the only candidate who can safeguard America’s future and bring peace back to a nation under attack and with an open border.
