Most people would be content to hand their neighbor a cup of sugar or jump start their car, but this generous man went above and above for his elderly acquaintance.
Chris Salvatore, a singer-songwriter, actor, model, and LGBT rights activist, lived across the hall from Norma. Every time he went past, she would wave.
After finding out that Norma lived alone with her cat, Chris decided to keep her company. Over time, Chris Salvatore developed a close relationship with his 89-year-old neighbor. They had long conversations and even celebrated each other’s birthdays together.
The doctors said that when Norma found out she had leukemia, she had no family to turn to. At that point, Chris decided to step in and help her whatever he could.
Because of her illness, Norma needed all the help she could get, but hiring a professional to give her care would cost money that neither Norma nor Chris had. The two of them resorted to social media to raise the funds needed for Norma’s care.
With the help of donors around the nation, Chris and Norma were able to raise tens of thousands of dollars. However, neither of them ever allowed money to be a problem. Chris said, “She’s my family.” As I indicated, she is my grandmother.
When the contribution monies ran out, Chris and Norma decided to share a room. Chris’s generosity meant that Norma would never be alone again, yet this relationship was advantageous to all parties. “She’s helped me tremendously as much as I’m here helping her,” Chris said.
