The American people are not the main opponents of democracy; rather, it is the dishonest Democratic Party and Big Tech. Senator J.D. Vance was correct. Claiming to be defenders of democracy, the liberal elites are deliberately trying to silence conservative voices and brand those who disagree with them as “misinformation spreaders” or “conspiracy theorists.” It’s ironic that these same Democrats, including Rep. Adam Schiff, spent years propagating the now disproven theory of Russian connection while opportunistically calling for the censoring of others in the name of safeguarding elections.
This week, Schiff intensified his attempts to stifle dissenting opinions by writing a letter to the CEOs of major digital companies, such as Meta, X (formerly Twitter), TikTok, and Google, advising them to step up their censorship efforts in anticipation of the 2024 election. In order to stop what they refer to as “misinformation” and “disinformation,” Schiff and seven of his Democratic colleagues requested that these platforms take more assertive action. They believe that misleading narratives pose a “threat” to democracy, unless, of course, they are the ones disseminating the lies.
This action is incredibly hypocritical. Schiff spent years promoting the Russia collusion story, which is among the biggest political falsehoods of our time. In his capacity as the ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee, Schiff misled and leaked material to mainstream media, stating that there was “damning” evidence that connected Russian meddling to the campaign of the former president Trump. The Special Counsel’s inquiry, headed by Robert Mueller, did not uncover any evidence of collaboration, despite these audacious assertions.
Schiff’s opposition to free speech has a longer history. He put pressure on social media firms to remove accounts that demanded probe openness during the height of the Russia collusion investigation. According to his fraudulent claims, several of these accounts were connected to Russian agents. Journalist Matt Taibbi’s and other independent investigations helped to establish that these were unfounded charges with no meaningful action linked to foreign meddling.
There will be more censorship from the Democratic-led apparatus. Only a few weeks prior to the 2020 election, Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, disclosed that Facebook was being heavily pressured by the FBI and other federal officials to bury the story about Hunter Biden’s laptop. The connection between Big Tech and the Democratic Party is further exposed by this flagrant act of censorship, which is being passed off as an effort to stop Russian misinformation.
It wasn’t the first instance. Zuckerberg further acknowledged that federal authorities used Facebook to suppress satire, comedy, and COVID-19 content—anything that deviated from the administration’s line of thinking.
The trend is obvious: Democrats are the ones endangering democracy while posing as “defenders” of it. A deeper goal—a desire for control, not truth—is revealed by their manipulation of the media, cooperation with Big Tech, and censorship of information they deem inconvenient.
Not just conservative voices will be muted if the Democrats and their Silicon Valley friends are successful in their endeavors. The fundamental tenet of American democracy, free speech, will go extinct. Conservatives need to keep up the pressure on this Communist Democratic censorship apparatus and expose the people who actually pose a threat to our republic—those who would compromise the truth in order to obtain power.
