About 6,000 newborns are born each year with Down syndrome, a disorder that affects a baby’s body and brain development and is brought on by extra chromosomes. Children with Down syndrome, who are frequently referred to as “sunny” due to their endearing, intelligent personalities, greatly enrich the lives of their friends and family.
One mother, however, felt burdened by her newborn’s condition and wanted to place the child in foster care rather than experience joy and love.
