After her husband Joe Biden declared he will not be running for president in 2024, First Lady Jill Biden made her first official statement.
On Wednesday night, the first lady thanked everyone who has helped her and her husband over his first three and a half years in office. X, the elderly Twitter user noted. She also reiterated her support of Vice President Kamala Harris, who as of Monday had gathered enough delegates to be formally Democratic Party nominee.
“My heart is full of thanks for those who never wavered, who refused to doubt, who always believed,” the speaker said. “Thank you for the trust you put in Joe; now it is time to put that trust in Kamala.”
X post of the First Lady also included a handwritten copy of the statement. Published minutes following the president’s inaugural statement to the nation following his withdrawal from the 2024 presidential contest,
Declaring in the Oval Office speech that he had dropped from the race in the “defense of democracy,” President Biden reaffirmed his support of Harris.
” Tonight from behind the Resolute Desk in the Oval Office, I am speaking to you. I surround myself in this hallowed area with images of outstanding American leaders. The magnificent words Thomas Jefferson penned direct this country. George Washington pointed out to us that presidents are not kings. Abraham Lincoln begged us to give hate no thought. Franklin Roosevelt encouraged us to let go of anxiety. I love my country more than this office; I respect this office. Being your president has been the honor of my life. But in the preservation of democracy, which is under jeopardy, I believe it to be more vital than any title. Working for the American people gives me power and happiness. But this holy chore of polishing our marriage is about you, not about me. Your families, your fates. It concerns each of us personally. And we must ignore that either. Furthermore, Biden continued, I never have.
“I have made it quite evident that I see America at a turning point. America will have to decide between forward and backward, between hope and hate, between unity and division on those few times in history when the decisions we make now decide our fate of our country and the world for decades to come. We have to choose: Do we still hold honesty, decency, respect, freedom, justice, democracy to be values? In this instant, we can regard individuals we disagree with not as adversaries but rather as fellow Americans—can we do that? Still relevant in public life is character? Since you are the American people and I know that we are a great country since we are decent people, I guess you know the answers to these questions. When you chose me to serve in this capacity, Biden said.
Nothing, though, can stop us from protecting our democracy. That covers personal ambition as well. Thus, I have concluded that passing the torch to a new generation represents the greatest path ahead. That is the finest approach to bring our country together. Long years of expertise in public life had a place and a time, as I know. New voices, fresh voices, certainly, younger voices have also a time and place. And right now is time and place. I shall be concentrated on performing my duties as president for the next six months, he said.
“Nowhere else on Earth could a youngster with a stutter from low beginnings in Scranton, Pa., and in Claymont, Del., one day sit behind the Resolute Desk in the Oval Office as the president of the United States, but here I am. America is really unique in this regard. Our country offers promises and opportunities. Of doers and dreamers. Of common people accomplishing amazing deeds. Like so many others, I have given our country my heart and soul. And the love and encouragement of the American people has blessed a million times in return. I suppose you know how appreciative I am of all of you. The primary advantage of America is that the people rule rather than monarchs and tyrants.

You are in charge of history. The power rests with you. You hold the concept of America. You only have to remember who we are and maintain faith—keep the faith. We are the United States of America, and when we work together, nothing, nothing beyond our capacity exists. Let us thus cooperate to save our democracy. God bless you all and may He guard our soldiers. Thank you; Biden said, “Thank you.”
