A stunning desert cat named Rotem makes an extremely unique and unexpected birth after losing her partner, Sela, last year.
There are currently only 116 members of the extremely uncommon species of sand cats. The lone surviving sand cat at the Ramat Gan Safari Park in Israel is named Rotem. She was grieving the loss of her partner.
In September of last year, the staff brought in Kalahari, a new male sand cat from Sweden, in the hopes that he would mate with Rotem, but Rotem wasn’t really interested in this nervous newcomer. For the most part, the two kept their distance from one another.
The staff found out one day that Rotem had given birth to a healthy litter of three kittens. Everyone was stunned beyond belief.
The Safari spokeswoman, Sigal Horowitz, stated, “We had been extremely worried.” Here, a full year had passed since we had made all of this effort to find her a partner, and still nothing had happened. Furthermore, sand cats are in their vital years since they are not immortal.
Rotem, the new mother, provides her three gorgeous, priceless kittens with outstanding care.
