Major League Baseball’s all-time hit leader, Pete Rose, was permanently barred from the sport in 1989 for game betting while managing the Cincinnati Reds. President Donald Trump has stated his intention to pardon Rose posthumously.

Despite setting numerous records, Rose, who died in September 2024 at the age of 83, has long been excluded from the Hall of Fame.
Major League Baseball (MLB) came under fire from Trump for upholding Rose’s ban and keeping him out of the Hall of Fame.
Trump said, “The same people who allowed cheaters and frauds to enter the Hall of Fame unfairly denied one of the greatest players of all time, Pete Rose.” “This is about justice for a great American athlete who should never have received this kind of punishment.”
“They have players who took performance-enhancing drugs, players who lied, cheated, and did far worse, yet Pete Rose—who bet on his own team to win—is treated like some kind of criminal,” he said, further denouncing the league’s hypocrisy. It is shameful.
Under Commissioner Rob Manfred’s direction, the MLB has apparently gotten more politicized and is currently considering a petition from Rose’s family to take him off the ineligible list. Trump stated that “Pete’s family has fought for years to get this injustice overturned.” “I believe it’s time for baseball to act morally at last.” Rose could eventually be inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame if he is restored.
