The beloved public figure and legendary country music star Dolly Parton has announced her retirement from lengthy tour engagements.
She plans to sometimes take the stage for a few occasions, including weekend concerts or appearances at festivals, even if she won’t be doing lengthy tours any more.
“I’ll occasionally perform unique shows here and there. Perhaps perform a couple shows at a festival or a full weekend of events. However, I no longer intend to embark on a full-scale tour. Dolly Parton
Parton has had a remarkable career in the music industry, having risen to fame from modest beginnings in the Appalachian Mountains. She will still write music and prioritize spending time with her husband, Carl Thomas Dean, even if she has decided to stop touring.
In 1964, Dolly Parton and Dean Dean met in front of a Nashville, Tennessee, laundromat. It was an immediate love connection for Dean. Dean recalled their fateful meeting with affection, saying, “I thought, ‘I’m going to marry that girl,’ when I first saw her.” The first thing that sprang to mind was, “Wow, she’s really gorgeous.” My life officially began on that day.
Defiantly ignoring Parton’s record label’s concerns, the couple exchanged vows in a private ceremony in Ringgold, Georgia, two years later. Their deep love has remained strong over the years, and they renewed their marriage vows in 2016 to celebrate their 50th anniversary.
Parton explained her decision to stop traveling in an interview with Pollstar, stating that she wanted to be nearer to her family and that she wanted to be there for her loved ones in times of need. She voiced worries about spending a lot of time away and the possibility of emergencies.
“I’ve done that throughout my life, and it requires a lot of effort and time. My spouse and I choose to live a little closer to home. Now that we’re older, I don’t want to spend four or five weeks away from home. Something might occur. If I were gone and someone needed me, I wouldn’t feel good about it. Or if I had to quit a tour because someone at home became ill and needed me, I would feel horrible about leaving the fans. Dolly Parton
Parton is still committed to her music career even though she is no longer touring. She disclosed that in order to satisfy her husband’s passion for rock ‘n’ roll, her current musical productions will center around that genre. Parton decided to explore an album in the genre after receiving a nomination for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
