Kate Middleton and Prince William are leading the charge to modernize the monarchy. In the meantime, surveys showing public opinion on the monarchy present a more negative picture, with many losing faith in it and suggesting that it may be time to reduce the size of the royal family and cut their financial support.
Prince William has advanced into a new role with King Charles’s reign; last fall, he abruptly displayed a beard, which was previously strictly forbidden when Queen Elizabeth II was still living. The future king appeared ill in the eyes of many royal admirers, who expressed their concerns to media outlets throughout the world.
William, however, remained silent and made no remarks. Indeed, they have a right to privacy. William might have defied royal tradition and refuted the reports, though, which would have benefited him and the Royal Family more than anything else. William, do you want to enjoy your reign as king and rebuild public confidence in the monarchy? It’s time to speak up more and show that you are just like everyone else.
The Royal Family has a history of avoiding interviews and even talking about rumors about them. The Royal Family’s attitude toward rumors and news reports is demonstrated by the fact that they never even responded to any of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s charges.
Despite being asked questions about Harry in public, Prince William and other family members never responded or shared their true thoughts with anyone. Harry’s tirade against Prince William and his family must have infuriated them.
However, the royals don’t always keep silent. When it comes to interviewing and sitting down with members of the media, the Royal Family is very rigid. Although they are entitled to privacy, a change is necessary if the monarchy is to endure.
This is where Prince William enters the picture, and the rumors that circulated last fall regarding his health provided the ideal pretext for him to begin making a shift.
Prince William needs to “manage the story.”
Social media fans felt the future king looked pale and ill when Prince William first showed up sporting a beard. It wouldn’t harm him to sit down for interviews and discuss his life, but of course, he shouldn’t be made to talk about his health because it is a very private affair.
The Royal Family must be open and honest, yet false information about them, their marriages, relationships, conflicts, and other matters is constantly circulated. The Royal family would greatly benefit from being proactive and responding to these rumors right away. It would imply that they demonstrate the institution’s capacity to grow and change to fit the modern media environment and way of life. Furthermore, regulating the narrative would stop disinformation from being spread by social media trolls and other dubious sources.
The Royal Family has undoubtedly been harmed by Harry and Meghan’s numerous charges, but in a sense, they are solely responsible for their silence. There is a greater one, though, even though Prince William would gain a lot from being more vocal and, for instance, refusing to accept the idea that he was ill in order to prevent the propagation of false information.
According to a new poll released in April of last year by the National Centre for Social Research, support for the Royal Family may have hit a record low. Just over half (54%) of British citizens, according to the group, thought the Royal Family was “very” or “quite important” in the fall of 2023. In contrast, the same percentage was 76% in 2012.
The decline in numbers was largely caused by Queen Elizabeth II’s death, and it was also probably influenced by the conflict between Megan Markle and Prince Harry. In order to modernize the monarchy and make it an institution for contemporary society, Prince William and Kate Middleton will play a pivotal role. Connecting with the public and being viewed as an ordinary person rather than some “godly” creature will be crucial.
“Gambling” on the future of the Royal Family
Prince William would benefit greatly from a single interview in which he would sit down and explain something as basic as why he chose to grow a beard. It’s difficult to understand why he simply refuses to do so. Being able to relate to him and the other royals on a daily basis will not only increase people’s trust in them but also, given that they are well-known individuals, allow them to have problems. The Royal Family is finding that it is increasingly important to connect with the public.
You deserve trust, and the royal family’s future is at risk if it is abused as a national symbol. William, is it worth risking more on it than a beard?
