The harsh reality is that none of our children are flawless, despite our strong desire to think they are.
Now, I’m not saying that most parents aren’t doing their jobs—far from it—just that childhood is a time of rapid learning, during which almost everyone will make mistakes they’ll later regret.
Perhaps the most important thing in these situations is not what actually happened, but rather how the youngster handles the situation and moves on.
We establish the idea of punishment at a young age for this very reason: when a child does something wrong, they must bear the repercussions of their actions. They learn a basic lesson from it, and maybe they won’t repeat the same behavior.
Of course, the severity of punishments can vary, from a symbolic smack on the wrist to techniques that the offending child is unlikely to forget.
In any event, one father’s selection for his daughter undoubtedly falls within the latter of those two groups. She was observed taunting a fellow girl at school who had undergone chemotherapy and lost all of her hair. It’s reasonable to say that her father wasn’t impressed when he learned.
He made the decision to take action to prevent her from doing it in the future. In order for her to understand what it was like to be her victim, he shaved her head bald.
It goes without saying that his rebuking style has received a lot of internet criticism, but he is unfazed by it. Conversely, he told CafeMom that he believes that was a very appropriate response.
In addition, he disclosed to CafeMom that his daughter is seeing the other girl’s ex-boyfriend, which exacerbated the tension.
“Stupid teenage gossip about my daughter’s boyfriend was the topic of their fight in class. The other female eventually labeled my daughter a slut and said that her boyfriend was only using her for sex, which shocked me since I didn’t know she was sexually active.
