Shortly after updating her status and sharing selfies on Facebook, a woman was killed in a head-on collision on a US highway, according to police.
At 8:33 on Thursday morning, 32-year-old Courtney Sanford wrote on her Facebook profile, “The happy song makes me so HAPPY.” At 8:34 a.m., police were called regarding an accident.
During her solo driving, Ms. Sanford’s car over the center reservation, crashed with a recycling truck, and caught fire, forcing the other vehicle off the road, the authorities said.
According to the authorities, there was no evidence that her speed, drug usage, or alcohol consumption had anything to do with the collision. She was going down Interstate 85 in North Carolina on her way to work at the time.
Only this past weekend, after Ms. Sanford’s acquaintances informed the police that some of her posts appeared to have been published around the same time as the incident, was the Facebook link made public.
Lt. Chris Weisner, a spokesperson for the High Point Police Department, told the WGHP TV station that the crash was a real-life PSA “showing what happens when you text and drive.”
In addition to the status update she wrote shortly before the crash, Ms. Sanford’s social media accounts showed that she had been shooting selfies on the highway, according to Lt. Weisner.
A life was taken in a couple of seconds so she could tell her pals she was content. “It’s not worth it at all,” he remarked.
“Despite its melancholy tone, it serves as a sobering reminder to everyone—just be careful when driving.”
According to the authorities, the truck’s driver, John Wallace Thompson, 73, was unharmed.
