One of the few voices that really chills me out is Randy Travis’.
He tragically had a stroke many years ago, but that didn’t stop him from paying tribute to fellow country music legend George Jones with a lovely performance of “Amazing Grace.”
Backlit by blue and purple lights, the famed entertainer honored the recently deceased George Jones while performing at the Grand Ole Opry.
Peers like Travis Tritt, Vince Gill, and Alan Jackson joined Travis.
Travis’s wife, Mary, has talked openly about her husband’s challenging stroke and the support that loyal fans have given her throughout this time.
Randy Travis was sent to a hospital in Dallas on a tragic day in July 2013 due to complications with viral cardiomyopathy. He ended up in a coma after having a stroke and requiring brain surgery. According to the physicians, the country and gospel music legend had an only 1 or 2 percent chance of surviving.
Therefore, there was little reason to keep trying to keep him alive.
Mary Davis Travis, his wife, could have just turned off life support and let her husband sleep. She was asked the question directly by the doctors. What was she hoping to accomplish?
But she decided to disregard all the customs. She chose to take an entirely new approach rather than listening to doctors as is customary.
Even though the professionals only predicted a 1 to 2% chance of survival, Mary knew her husband was a warrior. She had no choice but to switch off the respirators.
“I prayed fervently, asking God to grant me his return in any manner, shape, or form,” May remembers stating, as reported by USA Today.
Despite the fact that her husband was essentially little more than skin and bones, Mary never once thought about turning off Randy’s machines while he was still in a coma and tangled in a bed of cables.
And then, one day, the miracle appeared. Randy awoke.
“We are fortunate. We are content with our current location. At the end of our rehabilitation, we have no idea what God has in store for us. We’re singing a different song right now, and we’re just grateful to be where we are,” she remarked. “Wherever there is a reason for us to serve, we are pleased to do so. He would certainly love to return to that stage someday. We are so fortunate to be where we are and are currently just enjoying life.
Since his stroke, Randy has been confined to a wheelchair, but he is improving and is now able to walk shorter distances by himself. He has also started playing music, and he still has a deep passion and connection to it.
After relearning how to walk, he was admitted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2016.
Everyone who knows Randy is aware of his varied existence. His life has been both lovely and difficult at times, according to his wife.
Travis, who continues to struggle with aphasia, has obviously been trying and praying to return to his previous level of brilliance, if the performance below is any clue.
Take a look at Travis’s performance and share your thoughts regarding his recuperation!
He took this action following his stroke. Unbelievably. What a gifted man you are, Mr. Travis! I’m still getting chills from this. I pray for his recovery, and you can see and hear the emotion.
