Particularly for a small cat left on the streets, life can be cruel. Already, this little ginger kitten—later named Stevie—had suffered more than any animal ought to. His eyes were badly diseased, and his tiny body was weak from starvation. He was unable to see the world around him, but even if he could, he would have nothing to anticipate.
However, fate intervened to give him another chance at life just when it seems that there was no hope left.
A Rescue That Saves Lives
When Stevie was taken to the Washington shelter SpokAnimal, his luck finally turned around. Fortunately, he came just in time, despite his extremely critical condition. He had to have his infected eyes removed, which left him blind but at last pain-free. The shelter staff was determined to keep trying to help him. They proceeded with the life-saving surgery after realizing what a tiny fighter he was.
When asked if she could take care of Stevie, foster volunteer Jamie Myers was unable to refuse. Unaware that their adventure was only getting started, Jamie remarked, “I knew I had to help him the moment I saw him.”
A Brand-New House Full of Love
Stevie discovered something he had never experienced before in Jamie’s house: love. Jamie fed him by hand and stayed up all night to make sure he was comfortable, treating him like her own child. She saw the weak kitten gradually get stronger, put on weight, and learn to feed by himself.
Jamie cried with every small success. Never once did he give up. I wanted to ensure that he lived because he wanted to.
