Quill was born with more challenges than any small cat should have. Quill is a sweet chocolate Highland Lynx with the cutest teddy bear-like ears. Having twisted front legs from birth made every stride difficult. Her journey of hope started when she was adopted by the Friends For Life Rescue Network in Los Angeles after being abandoned and left defenseless on the streets.
However, nobody could have predicted the difficult task this young warrior would face.
A Precarious Start Filled with Hope
Quill’s road to recovery began when she arrived at the rescue. Zane and Mel Lamprey, foster volunteers, were aware that her legs need urgent physical therapy in order for her to be able to walk normally.
They worked with her every day, giving her therapy five times a day and rubbing her legs. Quill’s perseverance was unflinching in spite of the taxing workouts. After that, she loved cuddling with Zane as though to express her gratitude for continuing to believe in her.
Despite her diminutive size, fragility, and uncertain future, she had a kind heart. Quill immediately enchanted everyone with her pleasant demeanor and lovely eyes. Then came the heartbreaking news.
FIP: The Heartbreakingly Deadly Diagnosis
After a few weeks of therapy, Quill’s entire world fell apart. A devastating diagnosis of feline infectious peritonitis (FIP), until thought to be 100% deadly, was made when she developed a fever. Her foster parents were distraught. In order to save her life, they had to immediately stop treating her legs. Never before had the stakes been so high.
Quill’s sole hope to overcome this fatal sickness was to start an experimental medication treatment on May 4. In the hopes that she would be among the fortunate few to live, her caregivers held their breath. As they waited to see if the drug would help, the days were filled with optimism and anxiety.
