Cancel culture still has a significant influence on modern entertainment. Whether you like it or not, it appears to be here to stay.
Recently, a popular film that has been in theaters since 1937 has also been targeted by cancel culture. Disney’s first full-length animated feature, Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, is unquestionably one of their best-known works.
A woman who is friends with seven dwarves and suffers from a cruel stepmother is the subject of the film, which was based on a German legend by Brother Graham. The children of real love are the only thing that can save her once a witch eventually casts a curse on her.
The US Library of Congress has a different opinion, despite cancel culture’s strong desire to alter this movie. “Culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant” is how they describe the movie. What’s the point of considering an update?
Many of the Disney movies that made our lives so much more enjoyable are now seen by modern standards. “As a kid, I never knew how dark and sinister some scenes were,” one person even said on the internet.
The scene in which Snow White is kissed by the Prince is the one that gets people furious. People used to think that was a lovely, passionate kiss, but now they say it’s kissing without permission.
There is a lot of discussion going on despite the fact that some people are dissatisfied with the film. “I think it’s great we’re opening up the conversation about consent,” one commenter said, “but people blaming Disney – a romantic kiss at the end of a movie isn’t the reason teenagers become confused about consent.”
“It’s a fairytale, leave Disney alone,” says another.
In the end, she would have continued to sleep indefinitely if she hadn’t been kissed. Indeed, the discussion is still going on, and it will be interesting to watch where it leads.
