Everyone believed that Fig had found his everlasting home when he was first adopted as a kitten from Valley Animal Center in Fresno, California. However, this adorable cat’s life took a surprising turn. His family returned him to the shelter seven years later since they were relocating abroad and found it too challenging to take him with them. It must have felt like a complete upheaval to Fig, who had only ever experienced love and comfort with his family.
Getting Used to Life at the Shelter Again
Given that Fig had lived his entire life with his family, the shelter staff was devastated to see him return. When Fig first arrived at the shelter, he was shown in a widely shared TikTok video staring at the strange surroundings with a bewildered and lost expression. Viewers responded to the video with fury and sympathy for the stray cat, and it was evident that he didn’t understand why he was back.
To make matters worse, Fig turned eight while he was in the shelter, and instead of celebrating his birthday with his family, he spent it by himself in his cage.
Taking on New Tasks as an Elderly Cat
It might be difficult for older cats like Fig to find new homes. Although the shelter staff was aware that his advanced age may make adoption more difficult, they remained hopeful. Everyone at the shelter fell in love with Fig because she remained kind and gentle in spite of everything. The staff thought he could fit in with a new family because of his calm and easygoing demeanor.
Fig has proven to be incredibly resilient. He still exhibits love and patience despite having been abandoned, waiting for someone to come along and give him the second opportunity he so richly deserves.
