Couples participated in a dancing competition on “American Bandstand” in 1967. Legendary presenter Dick Clark requested his announcer to go over the rewards before the semi-finalists were paired off on the dance floor.
The fantastic “Craig” vehicle radio would be given to all the boys. Another prize, a tiny handcrafted radio, came next.
Additionally, 12 albums by various musicians were available for contestants to select from.
“American Tourister” would deliver the bags to the female contestants. The candidates were offered these opulent suitcases. A “Magnavox” color TV was the big prize, while other awards included camping gear.
Dick starts by asking the two judges to select tonight’s favorite duo.
The couples then begin to move on the dance floor as the music begins.
They all whirl and kick their feet while doing a variety of amazing maneuvers.
Each pair is identified to the judges by a number on their back during the black-and-white broadcast. They dance to Neil Diamond’s 1967 smash song, “You Got To Me.”
When the music ends, the judges ask if they may see a little bit more. It’s a difficult choice, they tell Dick. After consulting with his producer, they grant him an additional minute to dance.
Ultimately, the couples wait for the judges’ judgment while discussing it in numerical order. “American Bandstand” was exciting because it showed regular people dancing on television for entertainment. The top dancers had the opportunity to become famous and get expensive rewards.
