Playful and affectionate, Gallagher had been at Catfeine Cat Cafe for about eight months, waiting for his forever home. He remained behind and watched as his friends and siblings were adopted one by one.
Gallagher would run up and leap into the carrier of any other cat that went off with their new family, hoping that his turn would come. But despite his best efforts, no one was able to bring him home.
The Cat Who Was Only Seeking a Family
Rutherford County Cat Rescue pulled Gallagher and his six siblings from a dumpster, saving them from a difficult beginning and placing them in a much better future. Gallagher was the most gregarious and playful of the group, thus he won over many hearts at the Catfeine Cat Cafe by playing and climbing with all of the patrons.
Pulling toys across the floor was his favorite game, and he was always kind with the new kitties. Gallagher had a huge heart and was a kind guy, but he was never taken seriously. Gallagher stayed behind while his siblings all got houses.
The cafe’s owner, Taura Byrd, described him as a “so sweet, funny boy.” He always welcomes the new kittens first. We all assumed he would find a home so soon.
Sadness while Gallagher Watched and Waited
Gallagher’s patience ran out as the weeks stretched into months. He began to see the pattern: a cat would always leave in a carrier after being adopted. In a frantic attempt to join his buddies, Gallagher started climbing into their carriers in the hopes that someone would take him with them. However, each time, his expectant heart broke as he was tenderly pulled out and left behind.
“It was devastating,” Byrd remembered. “He would leap into the carrier for every adoption that week.” Regretfully, nobody took him, even though we thought a few of them might. As a diversion, we even got him his own carrier, but he soon realized that wouldn’t get him home.
Gallagher’s acquaintances at the cafe were perplexed when additional cats arrived and left, wondering why the affectionate and gregarious feline hadn’t found a home of his own. He was feeling melancholy, but he didn’t give up hope. Gallagher’s story eventually went viral online and won over a lot of people.
Soon after, after over eight months of waiting, Gallagher was reunited with his forever family and could finally climb into his own carrier to head to his new home. With happy tears in her eyes, Byrd remarked, “He’s such a special cat.” “We’re so happy he found his family after all this time.”
Despite the length of Gallagher’s voyage, his perseverance paid off. He is now living the life of his dreams, surrounded by affection in his everlasting home, where he will never again be disregarded.
