President Joe Biden presented the nation’s highest civilian award, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, to 19 deserving individuals, including Hillary Clinton, the Democratic presidential candidate who lost twice.
Athletes, actors, and fashion giants like editor Anna Wintour and designer Ralph Lauren were featured on the list.
Those chosen for the honor are people “who have made extraordinary contributions to their country and the world,” according to the White House. The distinction is usually used by the White House to draw attention to people and ideas that the president deems particularly significant.
Former U.S. Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy, the father of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the man chosen president Donald Trump’s secretary of health and human services, received the medal posthumously. George Soros, a philanthropist and Democratic supporter, and Jane Goodall, a well-known scientist and conservationist, were among the beneficiaries.
Additionally, U2 leader Bono, actors Michael J. Fox and Denzel Washington, and William Nye—also referred to as “Bill Nye the Science Guy”—were chosen by Biden. Along with soccer sensation Lionel Messi and former basketball player Earvin “Magic” Johnson, the list also featured Spanish chef José Andrés, whose World Central Kitchen travels to disaster and conflict zones to provide meals to local communities.

Other recipients include George W. Romney, the former governor of Michigan and father of recently retired Utah Senator Mitt Romney, and former Defense Secretary Ashton Carter. The award was given to him posthumously together with Hamer, a co-founder of the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party. Hamer helped draft the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and died in 1977.
Social media users shared a picture of Clinton and Vice President Kamala Harris, who also lost to Donald Trump in a presidential race.

After losing badly in the 2024 presidential race, Harris has no intention of “going quietly into the night.”
Reporter Isaac Dovere disclosed during a CNN piece that Harris privately informs supporters that she is thinking about running for president in 2028 or governor of California in 2026. Additionally, according to reports, Harris does not want her “last act” to be endorsing Trump’s election triumph over her.
Since losing the election last month, Vice President Kamala Harris hasn’t been seen or heard from much, CNN’s Manu Raju informed the network’s viewers. However, the Democratic Party is still in shock over Trump’s win.
Harris is considering two choices, according to Dovere.
She has been telling funders and other supporters she has been speaking with over the past few weeks, “As you haven’t seen the last of me, I’m not going quietly into the night.” Those close to her, including her advisers, are arguing over what it implies. Particularly four years after January 6th, they do not want her last official act to be effectively confirming Donald Trump’s victory over her. As a result, they view the 2026 California governor’s race as practically a layup, believing that she would likely win or, at the very least, win the election and become the state’s governor, Dovere said.
However, if she does that, she will not be able to run for president again in 2028. She would basically have to make the announcement immediately. She didn’t given a fair opportunity this year, according to those close to her, so that’s what it really boils down to,” Dovere continued.

“It wasn’t up to what she could have done,” Dovere went on. In any case, see how well she did. In 2020, she should be able to go again. Others argue that, given the current state of the Democratic Party, Hillary would not have a clean field or a cleared field and may instead lose the nomination in the Democratic primary. And it would be awful to go into that after 2024.

Democratic strategist Theryn Bond reportedly advised Harris not to run for president again after she told allies she was “staying in the fight” and contemplating a 2028 presidential campaign or a 2026 California governor bid.
