Police have finally located her after she vanished forty years ago.
When a missing woman was found by the police in 2017, forty-three years after her absence was reported to the authorities, the mystery surrounding her was largely resolved.
However, because Florence “Flora” Harris has dementia, no information about why she abruptly disappeared has been revealed, despite the fact that she was discovered alive.
It was by chance that Florence was discovered. The skeleton remains of a woman who fit Florence’s basic description were indeed reported to the authorities, who looked into the matter further. According to People, they found that someone was using her social security number at the CareOne senior care home in Lowell, Massachusetts, while they were looking for any living relatives.
The phone was connected to Flora Harris, who has been there since 2001, according to facility staff.
She was unable to remember anything about her history, but when she saw a photo of herself when she was younger and working at The Concord resort, her face lit up and she whispered “me.” She said, “Robert,” after being shown a picture of her husband, Robert Stevens.
After looking through her medical records for roughly 30 years, authorities discovered that she had spent time at St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital in Manhattan as well as a nursing home in New Hampshire.
One day, Florence vanished after her husband escorted her to the Monticello doctor’s office and was scheduled to pick her up in around two hours. There was no sign of her when he got to the scene.
Unfortunately, she is unable to provide any details about her life during the 43 years that she has been listed as missing due to her health condition.
“To be honest, I don’t think she ever really wanted to be found,” Festus Mbuva, a healthcare worker at the facility where Florence lives and who has been caring for her for over ten years, told the Associated Press. “You can tell something happened in her past that she didn’t want any part of,” he added.
He claims that even though she didn’t talk much about her life, he was nevertheless able to piece together, at least in part, her story. Florence once admitted to being abusive to her husband Robert, who was already deceased when she was found, according to Mbuva. According to People, she also disclosed that she was a hairdresser who was raised in Yonkers and attended the 1969 Woodstock concert.
Officials have been unable to contact Florence’s surviving family members up to this point.
The fact that she is safe and sound is fantastic.
It is rare to solve a missing person case involving a person who has been missing for more than 40 years.
