Ricky, a feral tomcat, was in poor condition when Helen first saw him in her garden. Ricky, covered in wounds and unable to defend himself, had obviously been in a lot of fights with other cats. He was in dire need of assistance because he had a broken fang and no obvious means of surviving alone. In an attempt to give him another opportunity, Helen and her companion quickly gathered him up and took him to the veterinarian.
A Battle for Trust
It became evident that Ricky had nowhere to go after his appointment to the veterinarian. Helen was determined to assist Ricky, so she made her garage a comfortable place for him to get used to his new surroundings. Initially, Ricky was cautious around people. Unwilling to trust after years of surviving on the streets, he growled and backed away whenever Helen or her boyfriend approached. However, Helen was aware that it would take time to gain Ricky’s trust, and she was prepared for the lengthy process.
An Amazing Metamorphosis
Ricky’s defenses loosened day by day. His health gradually improved as he began eating healthily. The initially protective cat soon started to like soft stroking and even let forth its first purr. As Ricky’s interest developed, he left the garage and experienced the coziness of carpets and warm interior areas. Helen remembers the sweet moment Ricky rolled around on the carpet for the first time, obviously excited to feel so soft after his rough life outside.
