David, Eddie’s seven-year-old son, was born to Camila and Eddie. However, parenting was a demanding job. One morning, while playing hide-and-seek, he dozed off and his stepson was nowhere to be found.
Eddie met Camila at a house party through one of his buddies. They quickly clicked and began dating. However, after a few dates, she informed him about her son David. He wasn’t sure at first if he should date a single mother.
However, Camila was kind with him, and when he finally met David, everything appeared to be OK. They thus made the decision to tie the knot when their relationship turned serious. Once they moved in together, though, everything was different.
Eddie was unaware of the difficulties involved in raising a child. David had never had his biological father involved, thus he needed his undivided attention. Although he felt sorry for the child, he couldn’t help but find the boy bothersome at times. Either way, he gave it his all.
He felt that Camila was a fine mother, aside from her overindulgence in pampering the child. And a few months later Eddie saw that David was getting a little too spoilt. He felt it would be best to talk to his wife about this.
“Camila, I’ve noticed that you never say no to him.” Eddie once said, “It’s crucial for a child to have structure.”
“With him, I prefer not to use that word. Camila answered, “I always feel so bad that he doesn’t have a father, and David’s so smart.
“Yes, David is clever, which is how he has pulled a lot of ruses out of you. Before he turns into a teenager and things get worse, this has to stop,” Eddie said.
“I understand. You know, it’s really difficult,” Camila apologised.
In addition to realizing that grownups have other commitments, he must stop throwing tantrums. He went on, “We can’t always play with him.
Alright, I’ll give it my all, but might you also assist me? she enquired. Being the only male figure in David’s life and his stepfather, Eddie gave his consent. Over the next two weeks, he gave it his all, but David continued to misbehave frequently.
Eddie sent him to his room multiple times to calm down, and the child appeared to take the small penalties to heart. He and Camila could at least spend some alone time together now. Eddie continued to imagine what their relationship would be like if they were the only two.
Thoughts appeared to have calmed down, Camila had to take a work trip one day. It’s an important conference in New York, but I don’t want to leave you guys alone for the entire weekend. His wife clarified, “It’s a huge opportunity.”
“Well, Philadelphia isn’t all that far away. It compares to a two-hour drive. For a few days, I think we’ll be alright without you,” Eddie answered.
“That’s fantastic! Since you’ve never spent time with David by yourself, I know. “I’ll be back Saturday morning, and our next-door neighbor Mrs. Cleary said she could watch him after school on Friday,” Camila remarked.
“It’s alright, my love. These days, David and I are really close. Eddie reassured her, “We can handle anything.
However, Eddie had a difficult week before Camila’s trip. He arrived home later than normal since he had several meetings at work. David was eager to play when he was picked up from Mrs. Cleary’s residence on Friday.
“Hide-and-seek, let’s play!” With excitement, David said.
“I apologize, buddy. Eddie said, “I’m exhausted today and I have to make dinner.”
Please! Would you please? At Mrs. Cleary’s, I had dinner. Not that I’m hungry. Would you please? Now let’s have some fun! It’s Friday! Tomorrow doesn’t require us to get up early. Please! The youngster kept pleading.
Okay. Eddie gave in, “But you hide first.

David gave a cheer and took off to hide. Eddie reached into the refrigerator for a Coke and counted down from 100 slowly and loudly. He flipped on the TV and took a seat on the couch.
But as soon as Eddie put his forehead down on the couch cushion, he nodded off. Since it was the first time the boys had been left alone in the house, David was rushing around with excitement but had no idea where to hide. It was his stepdad he hoped to impress.
The youngster made the decision to go up to the attic and hide there. He muttered excitedly to himself, “He won’t find me here.” Shutting the door behind him, he ducked behind some boxes.
In spite of the cold and the one lighting in the center of the attic, David wanted to show courage for Eddie. Still, as the minutes passed, nothing occurred. Eddie called for him, but he didn’t hear it. David thought to himself, “Wow, he’s awful at this game,” and turned to go.
He approached the door, but the handle was stuck. He was trapped in the attic.
“Dad, Dad, Dad!” David tried his hardest to strike the wood and yell, but to little effect. From the living room, Eddie, who was sound sleeping, was unable to hear him.
Thinking that his stepfather had left him locked in the attic, David broke down in tears. As the night wore on, the room grew progressively colder until he was forced to crawl under a box of old clothes to stay warm. He finally drifted off to sleep.
Eddie was dozing off on the living room couch when Camila arrived home the next day. “Hello, drowsyhead. Get up. She said to him, “I’m home.”
“What?” Oh?” Eddie woke up feeling confused. He gave her a quick glance. “Camila, are you already at home doing something?”
“Amazing. I guess David exhausted you last night? “Remember, I promised you I would be home this morning,” she said.
“Daytime?” It instantly occurred to Eddie to ask. “Oh no, I was playing hide-and-seek with David. I must have slept off,” he reflected, massaging his face.
“I packed breakfast to go. Camila said, “I’ll wake him up, and we can all eat together,” before heading up to David’s room. But he was not present. David was nowhere to be seen, despite her searching their bedroom and both bathrooms.
“DAVID, DAVID!” Camila called, her anxiety rising. “EDDIE!” “DAVID DOES NOT WORK HERE!”
Eddie stood up and went in pursuit of the child as well. Hearing his mother cry at that same moment caused David to wake up and knock on the door once more. After searching the attic for him, Camila gave him a strong embrace. Weeping, the youngster described how he became stuck.
“Aw, young one. All night long, were you hiding in there? I nodded off. Eddie said, “I’m so sorry.”
David received a warm bath and hot cocoa from Camila. After settling him into his room, she gave Eddie a hard time for his reckless behavior.
“I understand that raising a child can be challenging, but you married me to undertake this responsibility! He might have died of freezing up there! Camila yelled. “If you do not want this responsibility, you must inform me immediately.”
“There’s no justification, darling, I’m so sorry. You’re entirely correct. I promise that this won’t occur again. Eddie made a pledge.
As Camila observed Eddie giving her son more attention over the course of the following several days, she began to relax. He also said he was sorry to David for nodding off. Thank goodness the boy stayed healthy and enjoyed his stepdad’s attention.
David eventually became Eddie’s first concern in life as he started to adore everything about being a father.
