Ava and Peter’s marriage was anything but perfect. Despite their ups and downs, she struggled to let go of him until one day she found out he had an affair with someone else.
Peter claimed to be at work, working on a project, and he came home exhausted and sweating just after midnight. Since he had been acting aloof for the past few weeks, Ava felt he wasn’t being honest. He definitely wanted his wife to know more about his story.
Ava made the decision to join him the following day, despite how strange it felt. Her heart was pounding, and she doubted her choice. She tried to convince herself that she should believe her husband more, but it was difficult. She wanted to be completely aware of what was happening since her intuition told her it was happening.
Ava felt sick to her stomach when Peter stopped outside his office and paused at the door of a residence.
The attractive woman who answered the door hugged Peter. He came in after they had been talking for a few minutes.
Ava’s entire world came crashing down. The apparent explanation for Peter’s lack of interest in her during the last few weeks was that he was having an affair.
Heartbroken, she thought about marrying this man she thought she knew. However, he suddenly felt unfamiliar to her, as if he had never met her before.
Then came the obvious. Ava made the decision to face Peter, and she did so once he got home—again, much later than before.
“Are you and that woman having an affair?” Ava inquired in the hopes of learning the truth, which she secretly hoped would be different from what she saw it to be. Peter, however, made no attempt to refute it. He admitted that he had fallen in love with another person. For him, what started out as a one-night stand evolved into something deeper and more significant. Although he acknowledged falling in love with that other woman, he maintained that he also had feelings for Ava.
Unfortunately, he was quick to accuse Ava of being cold and unsupportive, which led to his affair.
It felt like a knife when he spoke. Ava had had enough. “Peter, I want a divorce,” she remarked as he stopped talking.
Peter, however, disagreed with that choice. Even if he was in love with someone else, he didn’t want to divorce Ava. He began hitting her, saying he would never sign divorce papers, and threatening her.
Ava was sobbing uncontrollably that night. She believed there was no way out of the predicament she was in. She could never have imagined sharing a home with Peter while he was in love with someone else. She heard Peter’s footsteps and the sound of a door closing as she continued to rest her head on the pillow and cry.
He wasn’t in their bed the next morning. She searched the entire house, but Peter was nowhere to be found. Her gaze was fixed on the safe at that moment. She felt compelled to open it, but it was empty. His passport, the cash, the jewelry. Everything was gone.
Bewildered, she turned on the ignition and headed to Peter’s mother’s house. Martha was standing at the entrance, accusing Ava of being responsible for her son’s departure from the nation. “None of this would have occurred if it weren’t for you and your foolish demand for a divorce. Martha screamed, “You destroyed your marriage and drove my son away.”
Ava questioned Martha if she knew that Peter was having an affair since she couldn’t believe what she was hearing.
“So, what?” “Martha said.” “You should never have disclosed your desire for a divorce to my son.” Hey, it’s all your fault.
Ava returned home after realizing that Martha could not assist her in any way. There was an odd quiet to greet her. She felt as if the house she had lived in with Peter had never been hers. She felt as though she was an outsider in her own house.
After several days, Peter was nowhere to be found. He hadn’t responded to any of Ava’s emails, and his phone was off. She was desperate for a resolution and began to doubt that she would ever see him again.
She was in utter amazement when she heard the news while flipping through the TV channels. Following a plane catastrophe, Peter’s name and his lover’s name were listed among the dead. Ava was shocked by what she heard. Peter had passed away. Someone was at the door as she was trying to regain consciousness. Martha was crying and accusing Ava of being responsible for the death of her son.
In the present, about two years after the terrible event, Ava felt she wanted a change and traveled to a local university. Never imagining that her life would change again, she chose to run shopping because it was a peaceful day.
She noticed a familiar face as she was scanning the label of a product she was considering buying. Her heart began to race because of how much the man standing nearby resembled Peter. She muttered, “Peter,” but the man didn’t answer. The similarity seemed too strong to be merely coincidental.
