Some animals are in terrible shape when they are brought to shelters, but their lives can completely change with a little love.
This was true for a stray dog that was discovered on the verge of starvation but has subsequently made amazing progress.
A critically malnourished dog named Pumpkin was adopted by the South Suburban Humane Society in Illinois in September. A neighborhood citizen discovered him first, believing he was dying, and took him to the police.
The South Suburban Humane Society’s CEO, Emily Klehm, told Newsweek that although they rescue a lot of dogs, Pumpkin’s case was so “extreme” that it left them stunned. She described him as “severely malnourished and incapable of walking.”
The dog was incredibly skinny, as seen in the photos; it’s a wonder he lived at all.
Veterinarians removed his matted fur and gave him fluids. After a difficult beginning, he began to improve and was placed in foster care under the supervision of a shelter staff member.
The shelter posted on Facebook, “Thank goodness we were able to place him in foster care, where he is beginning to get better and stand on his own again.” “We are so proud of him thus far, but his journey is far from over.”
According to shelter updates, Pumpkin has made significant progress in a short period of time. When they initially found him, he couldn’t stand, but today he can go around the yard by himself and wag his tail.
The shelter wrote, “This little man is so strong and getting better every single day.”
He has been gradually putting on weight, even though he is still quite skinny. “This little man is making progress, and we are eager to watch how much better he gets in the future!” written by the South Suburban Humane Society.
Although Pumpkin’s past is yet unknown, the shelter says that after he receives medical clearance, he will be put up for adoption.
Klehm told Newsweek, “Pumpkin will require a home that recognizes that he was terribly neglected.” Everything is new to him because he doesn’t know how to be a dog, including toys and leash walking. The ideal dog family would be one with experience.
He is doing well in the interim and adores his foster home.
We’re happy that Pumpkin is doing well and gaining weight, even though it’s tragic that he was abandoned for so long. We hope he gets a forever home as soon as he’s ready!
