On March 5, a University of Pittsburgh student vanished on a beach in the Dominican Republic. She made two Venmo payments that same afternoon, separated by forty minutes, it was later discovered.
The first one, which had a sailboat emoji as its description, was paid to an unidentified user at 2.54 p.m.

The second payment was made to a different user at 3:38 p.m. with the reference “coco bongo,” most likely referring to the popular Punta Cana nightclub.
At 5:50 a.m. on March 6, she was last seen strolling along the beach at the RIU Hotel & Resort with 24-year-old Iowa visitor Joshua Riibe.
Arriving on the island on March 3 for spring break, the college junior had stayed at the resort.
The night she vanished, the two were seen on CCTV walking and cuddling with a group of six people earlier in the day.
