One of the pupils had a 6.6-pound tumor removed from his face that was roughly the size of a basketball.
Adrián Espino, who is currently 23 years old, developed suicidal thoughts after a small “bruise” appeared on his face when he was six years old.
According to the local media, the growth was so hard to remove that a “hammer and chisel” was needed.
He had been diagnosed with fibrous dysplasia, and the doctors told his parents, Adrián Sr. and Maria, that there was “no cure” for the condition and that his tumor would grow as long as he lived.
Mr. Espino’s development had made his airways so narrow that if it persisted in making it difficult for him to breathe and eat, it would endanger his life.
Since the brick-heavy tumor was removed by Dr. Laura Andrade Delgado, the musician’s life has changed drastically. He hails from Mexico’s Chihuahua.
Growing up, Mr. Espino, who currently appears on the TLC show Body Bizarre, was a healthy child.
The mother of her son, Maria Espino, found the “bruise” on his face when he was six years old.
“Maybe he hit something, maybe he hurt himself,” I used to say to my husband. “I used to say that with him,” she continued. He was a continual sight, crying and gripping his face.
After his father took him to the hospital out of concern for his son’s health, Mr. Espino was diagnosed with polyostotic fibrous dysplasia. We don’t fully know how long this process took.

The hallmark of fibrous dysplasia is the formation of scar-like tissue instead of healthy bone, which causes the surrounding bone to become weaker, broken, or malformed.
The underlying cause of this illness, which people are born with, is a genetic mutation that takes place early in pregnancy. We don’t know much about the prevalence.
It is unknown if Mr. Espino has polyostotic disease, which is a disorder that affects several bones, in other parts of his body.
“This is going to spread all over his face,” the doctor stated after learning the diagnosis. According to Adrian Sr. Espino, this was the situation. Things are just getting started. This condition does not have a treatment. When the patient is no longer able to develop, this will come to an end.
The only option left to the doctors was to perform multiple surgeries to progressively remove the tumor as it grew larger.
However, as Mr. Espino grew older, his tumor grew larger even though multiple attempts were made to slow its development.
Mr. Espino, an engineering student, says, “I had a lot of thoughts about ending my own life.” I started to feel really depressed. I kept myself to myself in my own world.
“But I always concentrated on two things,” she remarked. I was thinking about my family, but I was also thinking about my pride. I said, “I didn’t want to let go.”
“I’ve always had the ability to see the bright side of things.” Who hasn’t occasionally felt lonely, even when there is a lot of activity going on around them?
Normally, I breathe through my nose, but lately, I’ve been unable to do so since it puts pressure on my left side.
It also makes it really hard for me to see with my right eye. It’s all so blurry that I can barely see anything. There’s a feeling of discomfort.
I have trouble chewing food properly since the teeth on this side of my mouth are misaligned.
Mr. Espino and his father flew to Mexico City, a thousand kilometers away, to have the risky operation.
Although I don’t think it’s possible, I could wind up looking like Tom Cruise. Mr. Espino answered. “I could look like Tom Cruise in the end.” “I have always held out hope that everything will turn out okay.”
“If we do not provide Adrián with treatment, he will not be able to breathe or eat because the airways are beginning to become blocked,” Dr. Laura Andrade Delgado stated during an evaluation of Mr. Espino prior to the procedure.
Dr. Andrade was able to remove the fibrous bone portion that was blocking Mr. Espino’s nose and mouth. Chunks of fibrous bone were removed. The tumor weighed 6.6 pounds (3.3 kilos) in total.
Three months following his procedure, Mr. Espino is recuperating remarkably well and adjusting to his new look.
He claimed that the healing process in the hospital was quite difficult because I had tubes inserted for the reconstruction of my nostrils. Every time I drank water, it hurt.
I can now sleep on a regular basis and my nose isn’t totally blocked, unlike before I was accustomed to sleeping in a seated position all the time.
There was a noticeable shift that I could see. Yes, that was quite a funny experience.
It seemed as though my body would move in one direction and my head would move in another. Just because I was accustomed to being heavy there.
“I’ve been through all of his surgeries, and in my opinion, this was the most difficult, and probably the most painful, for him,” said Mr. Espino’s father. The recovery process took longer than anticipated and was more intense and invasive.
Although Mr. Espino still need reconstructive surgery on his face, he now has ambitious aspirations for the future.
He stated: “First and foremost, I want to complete my education and release the book I’ve been hankering after.” I want to continue doing music.
