On Thursday during a panel discussion about the present divided state of American politics, Vice President Kamala Harris’s ex-boyfriend, former daytime TV talk show Montel Williams, broke down on the CNN set.
In the midst of a scandal, the governor—who served in the U.S. Army for 24 years—decided to retire from the army just before his unit was scheduled to go to Iraq and falsely claimed to have seen combat. Walz further claimed to have retired as a sergeant major, but the Minnesota National Guard subsequently disclosed that he had actually enrolled in the Army’s Sergeant Major Academy, dropped out, and retired as a Master Sergeant, the next lower rank.
Due to an accusation of “stolen valor,” Vance attacked Walz’s military history this week.
Williams praised Harris and expressed concerns about a new civil war breaking out in the nation on CNN after telling host Sara Sidner and the panel’s conservative, Scott Jennings, that Walz had a “right to say what he said” regarding his military experience.
The rest of the panel, including Williams, a 22-year veteran of the United States Naval Academy who attained the rank of lieutenant commander, was debating comments made by Trump’s running mate, Sen. J.D. Vance, a combat veteran of the Marine Corps, regarding Harris and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.
Her tenor is heard. It is essentially saying, “Let’s unite, not divide.” Even if we’ve disagreed—I don’t agree with what you’ve said—it’s time to have more conversations, like the ones we’re currently having. It has also dawned on us that, with a tiny rotation of the beach ball, we may observe an entirely different panel and perspective.
Sidner chimed in, “See a commonality.”
Her primary goal is to convey to the people of America that our shared experiences and values are far more valuable than our differences. And we really should listen,” Williams went on. People with mental illnesses and those on the periphery who are disseminating false information are removing a lengthy statement that says, “If my side loses, burn the whole thing down.” This is not possible for us.
It’s important to keep in mind that out of all the people who have served in the military, including myself and the estimated 40 million veterans still living today, the vast majority have raised their hands in the air and declared their unwavering commitment to shielding the Constitution from both internal and external threats. He added, starting to cry, “That’s what we believe in.”
For that reason, I’m wearing the uniform: to keep this safe for your generation. What do you want in the end? Let’s stop concentrating on how we can defend this and stop agitating those fools who genuinely believe they can. Do you want to consume food that’s been disposed of? For that is the course of events that will unfold. More people died in the American Civil War than in any other fight since, so keep that in mind if we go to a civil war, he said.
Sidner said the words “brother against brother.”
Will we be repeating this? Williams expressed regret and said, “Sorry.”
“I apologize not at all. This is a significant point in our history – a truly significant moment.
Vance stated of Walz in a press conference this week: “It’s not even his beliefs that truly disturb me; he has undoubtedly been a far-left radical. It’s something else entirely. As a former Marine and member of the armed forces, what truly troubles me about Tim Walz is that I fulfilled my duty to serve my nation by traveling to Iraq at the request of the United States of America. I’m really proud of the service I provided since I carried out their request with honor.
What action did Tim Walz take when his nation requested him to travel to Iraq? The fact that he left the Army and let his unit continue without him has earned him harsh criticism from many of his fellow soldiers.
