According to Deadline, actor Robert Blake passed away at the age of 89. Noreen Austin, Blake’s niece, disclosed the information.
Due to persistent cardiac problems, Austin says he passed away quietly at home with his loved ones by his side. He has been playing guitar, listening to jazz music, and viewing old movies for the past few years.
Blake started his long and successful Hollywood career in the late 1930s.
Blake debuted as an actor in 1939 in the uncredited role of “Bridal Suite.” He would go on to earn nearly 150 acting credits, including his most famous parts in “In Cold Blood” and “Baretta,” which helped launch his career in the 1960s and 1970s.
Over his career, Black received four Emmy nominations and won one for his performance on “Baretta.” Blake had his last notable appearance in the 1997 murder mystery “Lost Highway.”
Blake is now one of the many famous people that have passed away. While some lament the passing of his lengthy and illustrious career, many remember the horrific incidents that characterized the final quarter of his life, especially the terrible crime for which the former child actor was charged.
When Robert Blake lost Bonnie Lee Bakley, his second wife, in May 2001, his life took a devastating turn. Bakley was found dead in Blake’s vehicle, “slumped in the front seat,” according to LAPD Online. Despite having ten previous marriages, Bakley was 44 years old, 23 years younger than Blake, and had been married to him for a year. According to ABC News, Blake was arrested 11 months after Bakley was killed, shocking the entire world. “We are confirming that we have detained Robert Blake in connection with his wife’s death,” said police spokeswoman Officer Don Cox at the time.
Blake has denied killing Bakley on several occasions. His official account states that after dinner he left her in the car and came back to discover she had passed away. Throughout the judicial procedures, which included a year in jail before being released on a $1.5 million bond, Blake steadfastly offered his version of events, according to CNN. Blake connected Bakley’s death to her ancestry in a 2003 interview with Barbara Walters. According to ABC News, Blake said, “I feel in my heart that some man, 10, 15, maybe 20 years ago, because she used to get married to them.” “I think she destroyed a lot of people’s lives. I think she was seen on TV by one of the people whose lives she destroyed.
Blake was acquitted of murder on March 29, 2005, but his reputation never fully recovered.
