Former Representative George Santos has been outspoken about the recently surfaced drag images, while Ohio Senator JD Vance (R) has been mute.
A picture of the Republican vice presidential candidate wearing a long dress and a blonde wig went viral on Sunday, garnering attention because it contradicted the GOP’s longstanding opposition to LGBTQ+ rights and drag.
Matt Bernstein shared the images that went viral on social media on X with the remark, “new: I have obtained a photo of JD Vance in drag while at Yale Law School.”
Travis Whitfill, who supplied the images, attested to their veracity by saying, “This was taken in 2012… A student took the picture and sent it to me.
One commenter said, “Ladies and gentlemen, a picture of JD Vance in drag while attending Yale Law School,” in response to the obvious reaction to the image. I offer this to embarrass people who oppose drag while having a history of liking the art form themselves, not to shame people who drag. Another commenter said, “It’s adorable.” may eventually run for vice president. “Don’t call JD Vance weird because he wore drag,” a third person commented. Call him a bigot and a hypocrite for disparaging people who wear drag.
Some also supported Vance, such as George Santos, a Republican U.S. representative from New York, who told TMZ that Vance’s pictures were more like a silly costume from a college house party than drag.
It is dishonest to term that drag, and I believe that most men have experimented with gender-bending costumes at some point in their life. That’s what couples do all the time. The husband will disguise himself as a woman, while the wife will disguise herself as a man. “It’s not drag,” Santos declared.
