Following Matt Gaetz’s withdrawal as U.S. attorney general, liberals at MSNBC were relieved for a little while before losing their minds when they learned about President-elect Donald Trump’s second option.
Jason Johnson, an associate professor of politics and journalism at Morgan State University, was seen yelling into the cameras on Thursday’s episode of “The Ari Melber Show” as he cautioned that Trump’s appointment of former Florida attorney general Pam Bondi is both “effective” and “dangerous.” Bondi was nominated by the president-elect on Thursday, just hours after Gaetz pulled out of the race.
As I mentioned in the previous section, Pam Bondi is someone we should all be afraid of due of her competence. She may not share our beliefs, but she is capable of doing this work. According to the Daily Caller, Johnson stated, “So, if anyone on the Democratic side or who cared about liberty or justice was thinking, well, maybe Matt Gaetz will screw this up and that’ll give us some time.” Bondi cleverly implemented conservative immigration laws at the state level, the liberal scholar added. “She is knowledgeable about immigration. Recall that Florida is among the states that have been very aggressive in regards to immigration, deportations, relocating individuals to other places, and other similar measures,” Johnson stated.
Johnson claims that Bondi’s support of Gov. Ron DeSantis in his 2023 campaign to rid state-funded schools of “woke” curricula foreshadows her potential as the country’s top cop and ultimate culture warrior. “Florida has implemented a variety of laws and regulations to limit students’ activities on campus and to provide legal defenses for tampering with educational funds. Even with Matt Gaetz’s disreputable moral history, she is a dangerous and effective choice, and that’s, to be honest, worse than what we would have gotten with him,” Johnson continued.
In announcing his choice, President-elect Trump hailed Bondi as a successful prosecutor who will “refocus” the Justice Department away from weaponization and politicized law enforcement. She also has a spotless record to run on, he continued. “I am pleased to announce Pam Bondi, a former attorney general of the Great State of Florida, as our new US attorney general. For almost 20 years, Pam worked as a prosecutor, making the streets safe for Florida families while being extremely strict with violent offenders. She then sought to prevent the trafficking of lethal pharmaceuticals and lessen the sorrow of fentanyl overdose deaths, which have devastated many families throughout our nation, as Florida’s first female attorney general. I recruited Mary to serve on our Opioid and Drug Abuse Commission during my first term because she did such an amazing job—we saved a lot of lives!
Trump went on: “The political Department of Justice has been used as a weapon against me and other Republicans for far too long. That is no longer the case. Pam will bring the DOJ back to its original mission of combating crime and restoring America’s safety. I’ve known Pam for a long time; she is a tough, intelligent, and AMERICA FIRST Fighter who will be an excellent attorney general.
